Gold - 2014 New Zealand International Wine Show

92 Points James Halliday - ‘A generous medium to full-bodied wine, the bouquet and palate offering plum, blackberry, and dabs of chocolate and vanilla ex oak first up, given complexity by the brambly, savoury finish.’

The Shotfire story harks back several generations to 1871 when James ‘George’ Goddard filed a mining prospectus. For George, the great, great, great grandfather of Thorn- Clarke founder David Clarke, this was to become his El Dorado. He found a reef of gold at his Lady Alice Mine at Humbug Scrub in the Barossa Goldfields of South Australia. Above the mine in a hut on a ridge, George, the original ‘shotfirer’, stored his gunpowder, caps and fuses.
