Punt Road Chemin 2013 Chardonnay

Grape Variety: Chardonnay

‘If there is one thing to be said about these latest Punt Road releases, it is that they're complex drinks. Clever winemaking for sure. This Chardonnay is a suitable example.’ Andrew Graham. Chemin signifies a different journey in winemaking for Punt Road and is a limited release range of wines they have been making since 2010. These wines use the best and oldest blocks of fruit and practise a completely alternate philosophy while employing whole bunch and whole berry fermentation allowing barrels to age untouched with minimal racking, fining, and filtration.

2013 was a brilliant vintage in the Yarra Valley, a long, consistent season with all varieties picked at optimum ripeness, flavour and condition. From the oldest Chardonnay vines on the property (planted in 1987), these grapes were harvested by hand and 2/3 of the parcel was whole bunch pressed to barrel for natural fermentation while the remaining 1/3 was de-stemmed and fermented on skins  to encourage texture, phenolics, and interest then pressed off into barrel just before finishing ferment. Savoury but fresh.

Only 120 dozen produced.
